Kiwenga Beach.

A long, quiet stretch of white sand on Zanzibar’s east coast, with palms, shallow water and the kind of space that makes a slow beach day feel easy.

Why go.

The shoreline feels open and peaceful, with pale sand, palms and room to walk. It is a lovely choice when you want a calmer beach base on the east coast.

What to expect.

Kiwenga is tidal, so the waterline changes throughout the day. Low tide leaves a wide stretch of sand and shallow pools; plan swims around the tide if that matters to you.

My tip.

Walk along the beach rather than staying in one spot. The long coastline is part of the appeal, especially early or later in the day when the light is softer.
