Elafonisos ยท Greece

Simos Beach.

One of those beaches that makes you stop for a second when you see the water. Simos is a huge sweep of pale sand and unbelievably clear, shallow turquoise sea on the southern side of Elafonisos.

Why it is special.

The colour of the sea is the whole reason to come: glass-clear shallows shifting from pale aqua to deep blue, backed by low, dry hills and soft dunes. There is plenty of room to wade, swim and spend a full beach day.

How to get there.

Take the short ferry from Pounta on the Peloponnese to Elafonisos, then drive or take a taxi across the island to Simos. Having a car is by far the easiest option, especially if you are carrying beach things or staying until sunset.

What to expect.

In summer there are sunbeds, umbrellas, food options and nearby tavernas, but you can also bring your own setup. The beach gets busy in high season, so go early for the calmer water and the best spot.

Beach-day note

  • Check the wind forecast before setting off.
  • Carry water, sun cream and shade where you can.
  • Arrive early in July and August for the best choice of space.
