Dodecanese · Greece
Rhodes Guide.
Rhodes gives you far more variety than a simple beach holiday: a major medieval old town, Lindos, long stretches of coast and enough distance between areas to keep a week-long trip interesting.
Best for
History, beaches, Rhodes Old Town and Lindos
How long
4–7 days
Getting there
Rhodes has a major international airport and ferry connections throughout the Dodecanese and to Athens.
Plan your stay
One island with enough variety for a full week.
Rhodes gives you a medieval old town, Lindos, beaches and enough distance between areas that it needs a little planning. It is much more than a resort-island beach break.
Give Rhodes Old Town time
Stay into the evening if you can; the streets are much more enjoyable when you are not trying to rush through them in a couple of hours.
Make Lindos a full outing
The village, acropolis and beach deserve their own day rather than a rushed stop between other plans.
Choose your coast deliberately
East and west coasts have different feels, so do not assume one base makes every beach equally easy.
Where to stay
Rhodes Town is best for history and evenings; Lindos suits a more scenic stay; Faliraki and the east coast are practical for beach-focused holidays.
Getting around
A car is useful beyond the main resorts. Buses cover key routes but make it harder to combine inland and coastal stops efficiently.
How long to stay
Four nights covers the essentials; six or seven lets you include beaches and a wider road trip around the island.
Good to know
Before you go
Rhodes is a large island. Choose where you stay based on what you want to see rather than assuming every part of the island is close together.
